History
The roots of a local church are very important. It is important to know where we
have come from as well as where we are going. Please take time to read a little
about our recent history.
The roots of the church go back to the early
80s under the apostolic leadership of Keri Jones, and it finally became
established as New Life Church in 1985. Under the leadership first of
Ian Rawley and then of Tony Wastall, the church grew steadily and in
1995 we bought, refurbished and began meeting at Jubilee Centre in
Paddock, Huddersfield. Trevor Shotter became an elder of the church in
the same year.
Trevor Lloyd took over the leadership of the
church in 1998 and we changed our name to Community Church in 2003. The
name change was to reflect how important we feel it is for the church
to be a community and also expresses our desire to be an influence for
good in the various local communities that we live among.
God has
given us a vision to have a significant impact in seven distinct
communities in Huddersfield and the region and we have people meeting
together in homes during the week right across the area. He has also
spoken to us recently about being a very central and visible presence
in Huddersfield and to aim to build a church of at least a 1,000
members in the years to come. We want people to see church as the city
on a hill, as well as the salt of influence in their local communities.
Due
to the blessing of God we grew in 2007 and it was felt that more elders
were needed and in June Allan Hinchliffe and Brendan Cosgrove were
added to the eldership team.
