Vision
As well as enjoying living and growing as a community together we are a people who
are on a journey. We are pursuing together a vision and a purpose that we believe
God has given us.
We believe that God wants to change the whole world so that it becomes all that
he planned for it to be when he first created it. He is restoring his world so that
it is full of goodness, justice, peace, joy, love, abundant life and, above all,
God’s very own presence. This is not a pipe dream, but a certain hope – the Bible
assures us that God is going to restore all things and make everything new. We want
to be fully involved in God’s plan of world transformation.
We believe that God is transforming the world through his Son, Jesus Christ, and
through his church. That is why we believe that what the church is like is so important.
We are only a small part of the one church that Jesus is building right across the
world but we are committed to becoming a local church community that is a true expression
of the kind of church God desires. We want to be a church that represents Jesus
to Huddersfield and the surrounding region as well as joining with others to show
the nations of our world what God is like and to make clear to them his message
of world transformation.
Please take time to read the section on our vision and values which will say more
about the kind of church we want to become like and how it affects how the way we
live.
We see a church...
...that is a strong and healthy community of those whose lives are
being changed as they follow Jesus in every area of their lives, and work together
with a common sense of vision and purpose.
...where God is worshipped passionately and freely, and where the presence
and power of God are evident.
...that is governed in its beliefs and practices by the Word of God
and the Spirit of God, and not by customs or traditions or personalities.
...where its members are fully committed to one another and to God’s
purpose for his world.
...that is full of life and faith, free, happy, enjoying the goodness
of God.
...in which there are real and close friendships, warm relationships
and an openness to all people from whatever background.
...that is not built around meetings or a building, but is centred
on relationships, and a shared life as we meet from home to home.
...that is influencing and impacting its surrounding community and
that doesn’t retreat into a safe Christian ghetto
...that is committed to what God is doing right across the nations
of the world
...that has a credible voice to speak into all the issues which face
our society, and that is actively demonstrating a positive and godly example to
that society
...that is growing and reproducing itself across the whole region
...where everyone is learning to play their part and to do so gladly
with faith, commitment and integrity
We are committed to...
...living every part of our lives in obedience to God.
...serving God and his purpose in whatever way he calls us to or
we are given the opportunity to.
...encouraging, helping, challenging, correcting and serving each
other so that we each can live for and serve God better.
...following the vision and teaching of the local and trans-local
leadership of the church.
...honesty, integrity, loyalty and love in our relationships with
each other.
...dealing with disagreements and conflicts that arise between
us in a godly and honest way.
...supporting the work of the church in the giving of out time,
our effort, our gifts and our finance.
...being open to be discipled by others and willing to disciple
others.
...seeing the common vision fulfilled whatever the cost and however
long it takes.
